What's new this week in Kindergarten?!? Read ahead to find out...
Reader's Workshop: We are finishing up our literacy theme called Down on the Farm that focuses on farm animals. In reading, we are discussing how to draw conclusions. Our aplhafriend this week is Iggy Iguana and we are focusing on the letter Ii. Our new sight words for the week are: will/with.
Science Workshop: We are wrapping up our studies on the patterns of Day and Night this week. 
Writers Workshop: I have introduced students to the new genre of Response to Literature. This week each child began a retelling about one of their favorite books.
Math Workshop: We began a new unit of Shapes and Spatial Reasoning last week. We have been focusing on three-dimensional shapes. In this new unit we have gone a a shape hunt and learned a variety of new games and lessons that focus on the relationships between shapes.
Play Day has been cancelled until further notice. Our field trip to the Jacksonville Zoo will be next Thursday, March 24th. If you have signed up to chaperone please be at school by 8:45 a.m. It is required that you have a volunteer card approved by the district in order to chaperone this trip. Thank you for volunteering! I hope you all have a Happy St. Patrick's Day :)

In an effort to keep you all more involved in your child's education, I will be attempting to make regular posts with updates and information regarding our classroom from week to week.
Reader's Workshop: We began a new literacy theme called Wheels All Around that focuses on transportation. In reading, we are discussing text organization and summarizing. Our aplhafriend this week is Dudley Duck and we are focusing on the letter Dd. Our new sight words for the week are: get/did/for.
Science Workshop: We are studying the patterns of Day and Night. The students will begin to look at shadows throughout the day and over time.
Writers Workshop: I have introduced students to the new genre of Report Writing. This week each child began an "All About Me" report. They are continuing to write and illustrate facts about themselves each day.
Math Workshop: We began a new unit of Measurement and Counting this week. Your child has been measuring a variety of objects using tools such as cubes and sticks. We are comparing lengths and discussing the terms longer/shorter.
Don't forget that our class picture will be taken on Friday Morning, February 11th. If you would like to purchase this picture, you must return the order form by Friday. Our school Valentine's Dance will also be held on Friday, February 11th from 6pm-8pm. I hope to see you all there! Our class will exchange Valentine's on Monday. Please send in a Valentine labeled for each child in the class. I hope that you all have a fantastic week!

Our First Days

We have had a great start to our year in Kindergarten! Thank you for all of your support thus far with classroom supplies, keeping up with homework, and making sure your child is prepared for school everyday. Just a reminder that school pictures will be taken on Friday morning. I look forward to another fabulous week!
